Now this is something I can really get behind even though it wont pass because of all these old fart know it alls who think they know what is best for us while they guzzle their whisky and crash their big ole luxury cars payed for by us.......all I have to say is legal or not I will never give it up for any reason........It ended my anger problems, gave me inspiration to create beautiful works of art in tile, saved my marriage, stopped my chest pains from stress, gave me a better outlook on life, allows me to meditate peacefully, allows for a great night sleep, and contrary to what everyone thinks it actually makes me work all day long without a break ( I don't actually do it every day, I would never have a customer discover I was high while doing a job for them) I guess I am the exception to the rule, I am very responsible with it, as are most of my friends and the occasional customer who does it. legalize pot and you will have world peace!!!!! sorry for rambling on....its not something that everyone likes to talk about because you never know if the person you are talking to is a snitch. ( witch is absolutely ridiculous to say the least) when you have people out there drinking and driving, drinking and beating their wives and kids, drinking and starting fights with everyone.....ever see someone get high and want to start a fight? ? wont happen,

I'll bet every one of the Talibama ;D Legislature has smoked pot before. Except Hank Erwin, it would probably kill him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Places_that_have_decriminalized_marijuana_in_the_United_States#Mississippi

Not in a while...do they have all three now? Never been. I was hoping someone could tell me more about the place. On their TV ad they show slot-type machines in the background. Are these like real slots or are they some type of sweepstakes machines? Any table games or craps or such? I think it'd be fun to go bet on the horses and drink beer one Saturday for the heck of it.

Based on information gleaned from the Alison legislature system it does not appear to me that the Judiciary committee made any action (favorable or not) on HB206 during their meeting this morning. A bill can die in a committee from inaction and for that reason we should press the committee to make a decision and furthermore to ask these members to request a voice vote on the motion to act. If two members of the committee request a voice vote (one request and one to sustain) then we get a record of how each representative is acting. A list of judiciary committee members can be found at: www.legislature.state.al.us/house/housecommittees/housecommittees.html#Anchor-JUDICIAR-29101Keep up the support.

HB 206 is up before the house judiciary committee on April 25th. The House Judiciary Civil Justice Subcommittee will consider this bill in room 123 of the state house. The members of this subcommittee and their corresponding contact information can be found at the following page: www.legislature.state.al.us/house/housecommittees/housecommittees.html#Anchor-JUDICIAR-29101Please get the word out and contact these representatives in an effort to get this bill onto the house floor for a vote. It would also be beneficial to request that these committee members ask for a recorded vote (two members need to request that) so that we may have a record of positions.

Never know...they could pass it in 'Bama. That way they'd have something to spend their pay raise on (maryjane) and the time to smoke it (the other 13-14 waking hours since they only spend 2-3 hours "working" while in session).

I suppose in your world that gays and other people you dislike would not legally be able to share a bong?

no, that is just a myth that the federal government has produced to keep people away from what could take away from the meds industry. The real culprit is second hand cigarette smoke and industrial pollution.
Brandon, would you lay off me, I love everyone, even gays, I just dont agree with their lifestyle, nor does God. I would share a bong with anyone who dont have a communicable disease. Otherwise I would never eat at a restaurant, think of the people who eat off the plates, use the same utensils and drink out of the same glasses you drink out of. Why are you trying to start something with me.

espy, Is this wrong then? "Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers do, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, a heightened risk of lung infections, and a greater tendency to obstructed airways9. Smoking marijuana possibly increases the likelihood of developing cancer of the head or neck. A study comparing 173 cancer patients and 176 healthy individuals produced evidence that marijuana smoking doubled or tripled the risk of these cancers10. Marijuana abuse also has the potential to promote cancer of the lungs and other parts of the respiratory tract because it contains irritants and carcinogens9,11. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than does tobacco smoke12. It also induces high levels of an enzyme that converts certain hydrocarbons into their carcinogenic form—levels that may accelerate the changes that ultimately produce malignant cells13. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke. These facts suggest that, puff for puff, smoking marijuana may be more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco." www.nida.nih.gov/Infofacts/marijuana.html

How does a person who uses marijuana pose a risk to others? I ask because not familiar with what using marijuana does to a person. I hear that it helps a person to relax and maybe to not care about things so much. Would one who smokes this have a delayed reaction time while driving, etc.? Other than potential health problems to user, what are reasons people are opposed to legalizing marijuana?

Other than potential health problems to user, what are reasons people are opposed to legalizing marijuana? It poses no more of a threat to others than someone taking a valium. It relaxes your mind, relieves stress, stops arguments in their tracks, helps you sleep, helps to control nausea, relieves pain. The only people who are directly affected by the use are the ones using it and the drug companies who lose money because the user no longer needs their medication. Most people I talk to aren't opposed to legalizing marijuana, and the only ones who are are the same ones who think the government is here to protect and serve us.

Harmful to your self or not it is still less dangerous to others around the user than alcohol and cigarettes. And should be legalized.

Oh, I have no problem with the legalization of illegal drugs. As long as the government does not spend one penny on drug related programs. Drug testing for those wanting any government assistance.
People can use their freedom in that manner if they so choose but there can be no expectation that others will have to deal with any of the consequences. Zero tax dollars used in relation to drug enforcement, education, treatment, medical.
All laws, such as DUI should be rescinded. Until a person that is affected by any drug actually causes damages to another person or property, they should be left alone to enjoy their freedom.
Do you agree with that?

Until a person that is affected by any drug actually causes damages to another person or property, they should be left alone to enjoy their freedom. Do you agree with that? No man, I only think that PLANTS that God put on earth for us to use as pain killers, nerve tonics, sedatives and such shouldn't be illegal just to allow drug companies to try to synthesise them as they have with aspirin, opium, THC in marijuana. These laws only ruin lives of those who wouldn't be a threat to anyone. And like I have said in the past, alcohol should be eradicated from the face of the earth. It is the leading cause of fatal car accidents, it causes people to loose all self control ( as we saw with Brandon, no offence Brandon,) It causes fights anywhere it is used in public, it destroys your insides. I'm with you on the deal if any drug like that is to be legalized then those who seek government assistance should be drug tested and denied if it is found in their system. But as for me and a lot of my friends who use it, we put quite a large sum of tax dollars into the system with our jobs and I feel as a responsible tax paying citizen that if I want to unwind at night with a joint then I should without the fear that I will loose my home and my freedom. The affects of marijuana, even though it stays in your system for a while, only last for a few hours, then it is COMPLETELY gone, no hang over, no after affects, I'm able to get up early because I slept so good and I'm able to work a very long day because of it. Phin, have you ever really tried pot, do you know what it really does to you? for me all it does is it gives me an overwhelming since of peace, both inward and outward, it alters my perception of time to an extent, it keeps me from ever getting into an argument with my wife, If I do it before we go shopping, I can shop with my wife for hours and even help her to pick out her clothes. Not to mention what it does for our sex life....... ;D
