I have heard of no legislation that proves otherwise. I have not heard him speak on these issues -- therefore, I have to assume all is well with the Senator as for as the "politics as usual."
Stop being stupid by continuing to support such, phinehas! You have a mind -- use it! Or is it your job to continue to support the wrongdoing of the Republican party? You can get another job, I'm sure. Tell them to go to hell!

silly....are you trying to give orders again? ;D No, just asking you to stop pissing on a discussion that other people are trying to have. Exactly where is your 'evidence' of that False accusation in this Thread?

No, just asking you to stop pissing on a discussion that other people are trying to have. Exactly where is your 'evidence' of that False accusation in this Thread? Post#173 was your attempt to insult me. Again, you can either discuss in a mature manner or you can keep pissing.

Quote by Phinehas ''That being said, it is your prerogative to judge people in that manner but some of us need more substantive quantifications. I don't make judgements on people based off of what other people do, don't do or say.'' Quote by lawman ''And this is exactly why I don't answer your questions! Godly perception, Revelation, understanding and wisdom IS NOT textbook!'' That is NO INSULT! That is a Statement of fact and my opinion! You are trying to start trouble!

I have no evidence that you are not Charles Manson at a prison computer terminal, does that make you Charles Manson. Just because you don't have evidence for something doesn't mean the opposite is the case. Calling me stupid because I disagree with you doesn't bolster your premise. I haven't been talking about the Republican Party at all, never mentioned it. I am talking about Erwin and if you made the same comments about any other legislator I would have made the same statements and requested evidence. You either have actual evidence or you base your judgment on other things.

Re: Mac... "Is this to imply that Christians do not exist in other parts of the country?" No, I think that may have been your interpretation of what I said, but it was actually "In Alabama the Christians..." I've just not seen that level of attempts to control the actions of the population as a whole, but I've mostly lived in the north, midwest and southwestern parts of the country. Alabama(and maybe other southeastern states) just seems to give me the feeling that there is less tolerance for people of different faiths, or no faith. By "Alabama" I mean both the government and a good deal of the people I've met outside my workplace. So do you, like Chris Hobbs, believe that those less politically minded Christians, that do exist in other parts of the county, are not the "good" Christians? Are they being untrue to their "very nature?" Re:Mac... "When did Erwin supplant Jesus in defining what is and is not Christian?" I've not been here long enough to know the date he started that... LOL But that is an unfair characterization of Erwin. The feeling I get is that he doesn't intend to supplant Jesus, but rather be the one who interprets the intentions of the religion as the right hand man (and enforcer) of "the word". That is something I don't agree with, and haven't seen done in other places I've lived... It was not Erwin's intention that I was impugning. Atheists and oddly enough Agnostics -I thought they were the unassuming types- have, in this thread, used Erwin as a benchmark of who are to be considered the "good" Christians.

People who don't like a certain "group" -- this case, Christians -- will typically find extreme examples to make a blanket statement. If we ever see another abortion clinic bomber, they might very well point that person out as a "good Christian" too. Just forget about the every day "Joe" who just tries to live a life based on the examples of Jesus, doesn't thump people over the head with the Bible, or is not acting holier than thou on a regular basis. Oh, wait, maybe those are "new-age" Christians.... ;D

kevin-
Exactly so.
Leftists are quick to try to paint all Christians with the same broad brush, saying that we're all like McVeigh or Rudolph, if not openly then at least juuuust below the surface.
The truth is that it is the Right who are among the very first to distance ourselves from lunatics such as McVeigh and Rudolph, making it very clear that they are not 'model Christians' nor do their actions represent the mainstream of Christian thought or agenda.

sorry but rush is nothing more than a joke......and the neocons talking points are just as boring as hank.
by the way i define neocon a new type conservative.....and they have shown to NOT be conservative on any level.
conservative means a protector and defender of the constitution....to conserve the gift of freedom for us and posterity.

and just why should the people who voted for Hank Erwin have their hands chopped off and their eyes gouged out? I have listened to the man on the radio and I don't know why there are some people scared of him or see him as Mussolini.
He has one vote.....and if the people in his district want him to represent their interests, then what's the problem? How many "Anti-Erwins" are there in the Legislature? Plenty to neutralize his vote.
He was a strong opponent to the Legislature raise but he can't get any credit for that. Name the EXACT bills this man has written and that have subsequently passed and become law that you or anyone else has a problem with.
Just curious since it seems he is a perennially wiping boy on this forum.

Just for the record-
Rush Limbaugh is a paleocon, as am I. Or "traditicon"- your choice.
If the argument is that Erwin, by not overty opposing corruption is tacitly condoning corruption, I can see quite a bit of merit in that accusation.
On that proverbial other hand, as was pointed out a bit earlier in this thread, Erwin is but one legislator with but one vote. Unless he builds a coalition of like-minded individuals who'll all vote together, his influence is rather limited. Consider what changes you'd like to see him push through in that context.
Besides...we all know that Paul Hubbard runs things on Goat Hill.

womi, and as I had that argument with killer...she was unable to provide one ounce of proof to show that he hasn't done everything within his personal power to not oppose corruption when confronted with it. I don't know what people expect him to do...it's not like he would be a type individual that a corrupt person would be comfortable in "corrupting" in front of, so to speak. He can't make up shit because he suspects corruption from specific people or the majority of the Legislature.
You are right about Rush. The man is definitely NOT a joke.

phin-
Fair enough.
As I don't listen to his show, I don't know what Erwin has done or hasn't done.
I didn't express my thoughts very clearly either on looking back.
What I should have said was that, in general, I can see merit in the argument that, if you don't stand up and oppose corruption wherever you find it, you are tacitly condoning corruption. I should not have specified that Erwin was doing so because I don't know that he is.
Right message, wrong messenger.
He's sort of the right-wing equivalent of Al Gore in that, while what he talks about might (or might not, re: Gore) be a real and serious issue, it's too easy to attack the messenger and disregard the message.
As an entertainer though, Rush is without peer. If people tune in to be entertained and happen to learn something they didn't know in the process, all the better.
But how many times here do people read that the source for a statment is something Rush said on his show- even if someone else originally said it- and they tune out immediately at that point? it stops debate because those who disagree with him can't get past his name being attached to the 'evidence'.
Case in point:
I fill out Harris Interactive questionaires all the time.
I did one this past weekend dealing with Current Events.
One section had to do with whether I found certain things said recently in the media to be offensive- it even warned me that I might well find some things offensive and told me to proceed at my own risk (more or less).
Well, one of the questions was along the lines of "Do you find it offensive that radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh refers to Senator Barak Obama as "Osama Obama"?
If you listen to the show, you'll know the true origin of the quote.
Hint: it sure as Hades wasn't Rush Limbaugh
But did Harris do the research that would have told them who actually said it? Nope.
If I had to make a guess, I'd say that they took Media Matters' word for it, because they reported a couple weeks back that it was Rush Limbaugh who was the original source of "Osama Obama".
I emailed Harris to correct them. The point is that, because it sounded like something Rush would say, they ran with it rather than checking the facts. I think that's typical when Rush is involved.

Ya know, no eyes, no hands, can't vote for that guy again...sheesh ;D. I don't like it when any politician uses his position to assert morals. Yes, he voted against the "pay raise" (remember, its expenses!!), but that does not make everything else he does just that much better. I believe in the free will of man, and invoking your religion upon people through politics will bring us to the same place that many Middle Eastern countries are today. My walk with God is personal so I don't need some politician telling me how to live. In all seriousness, I agree with Erwin in many things, I just don't agree with his delivery. Its one thing to "shine your light" and another to force that light upon people. The way he mixes his faith and politics does not bode well. I think you can be a strong Christian and a good politician, but you can't let the two bleed into each other where you come off sounding like your doing everything "for spiritual well being" of the people.
