OK then. What's the salary and benefit package for the 9 months of work? How many sick days, personal days, holidays? I think lots of people would like to know true figures since we're always hearing how poor the pay is.

I think lots of people would like to know true figures since we're always hearing how poor the pay is. Me too, Killer. I'm tired of the incessant whining of the poor, pitiful abused teachers. Get a different job if $40k a year isn't enough.

Actually, teachers make less than $40k in most instances. But then again, they do have 3 months off to find other work. Teachers aren't getting rich and it is the responsibility of each person to research their field of study before they spend 4 years and $40k for a degree.

While I won't defend the AEA, I will defend (most of) the teachers.
My brother in law is a teacher and a really good one. Despite being quite the Lib, I'd be perfectly content having him teach my daughter because he knows that politics and the classroom do not mix (unless the curriculum calls for it) and because he has that 'gift' the best teachers have- the thorough knowledge of his subject AND the ability to convey that subject to his students in a manner they understand.
My daughter often asks me for help with this subject or that but, all too frequently, while I understand the subject, I can't communicate it so a nine year old can comprehend it. But that fault is mine, not hers.
While school might not be in session during the (shrinking) summer months, my brother in law is required to attend various teaching seminars around the country and to begin planning next year's teaching plan almost the moment the prior year's one ends. Maybe he doesn't do the 40 hour a week thing in summer, but rare is the week he doesn't devote at least some time towards his job.
I blame the bureacracy of the AEA and its over-reliance on administrators and other causes that do not teach a single child; I can't blame most of the teachers (though I concede that there are some really bad ones out there- had a few of those myself over the years).

I would like to hear about the bull-riding event that is coming to civic center. Not familiar with such an event -- but sounds like a bad way to treat bulls. Please talk about this so people with knowledge can call with information on how this affects the animals, etc.
By the way, did ya'll discuss the circus and treatment of circus animals? I didn't hear it if you did.
Maybe if audience hears about the treatment of these animals, they will not go and support these events. And, hopefully, the groups will end up taking the animals back to where they belong -- to a place where they can eat grass, exercise, and enjoy a normal life.
