Being an ex-marine during the Vietnam war, I have a feeling our country is headed in the same direction toward our troops as they did to the Vietnam Vets. I went to Vietnam 1968 with 9th Marines, just as the Tet offensive started. Ke Shan where the Marines gave the VC a good beating. Back in the states I paid the price for being a Vet, first after going to work for General Telephone, becoming an A-cut lineman. I did not tell I was a vet. when I started, and after finding out I was after 6 months I was fired. Even though vets were suppose to have a perference on jobs, affarmative action came ahead of us. I see some complain about Russ and Dee They did have the guts to tell the truth of what really was going on.

First of all, Thank you so very much for your service. I have an uncle who was in Nam, career Navy man. My older brother is career AirForce. Not all people are anti military and anti America, it just seems that the majority of them seem to find there way to talk radio forums.

djohn,
Well, I hope not...I personally think it will be limited to the small but vocal left-wing nuts as far as any disparagement.
I would say that I was and am concerned with the over compensation in regards to our current military. In other words, all of the "thank you for your service" related comments....it may be overused and if not already, soon to become "ceremonial" and no longer genuine. I hope that came out right and people understand what I am saying here.
Edit: Not meant to imply your specific comment DP, I typed this up as you responded. That being said...the influx of people saying things like that, in robotic fashion is a concern to me and I would think more so to those in and out of the military. Again, I hope my comments on this were clear and that my concern is that it doesn't become a obligatory phrase, which may be too late, instead of something heart felt.
Americans have a tendency lately to over compensate and going from no thanks to Vietnam era Vets to a catch phrase insertion once a military service status is perceived, to me any way, isn't a positive thing. Kind of like all the American flags that popped up after 9-11...all over the place, on trucks, cars and along road ways....and now...what happened to them? Same thing will probably happen with genuine recognition towards our military people, except we will be left with a hollow comment in similar fashion of "how are you doing?" as you pass by a stranger.

in alot of places it already has become a hallow statement. But it just depends on where you go. When i was still in, and since I've gotten out i am still told thank you by many people from different walks of life when the conversation brings up that i had been in the military. You can tell who is sincere and who just uses it as a comment. My biggest disappointment has been that the majority of the country jumped on the band wagon with the true patriots, then stopped hoisting their flags and such when it became to tiresome, boring, or the novelty of it just plain wore off..
Truthfully, it's not going to change for the better, the American people are just to lazy and spoon fed to do much of anything for themselves. And it's going to bite us in the ass before much longer..

I support the military. Actually, I have a tendancy to spoil them. My husband is a vet and some of his friends are active-duty nearby. We have them over often for fun, games, holidays, etc. I enjoy cooking and baking lots of goodies for them in a attempt to put some weight on the two skinny mini crew-chiefs. ;D I don't approach strangers, even those in uniform, because I don't want to embarrass them.

Ok can someone please fill me in here... I keep hearing "I support our troops" from every Politician and joe blow out there. I personally support what they are trying to do there. Not just the troops but everyone involved in trying to get rid of the maniacs who are trying to take over the world and kill us or make us all Muslim (isn't that some kind of fabric ;D) I come from a family that has served in the military in some way or form since the "Civil War". I even served in the Air Force for a short period I had cousins in Viet Nam. My step-son served in Iraq. I am definitely pro military. I love this country and all that we stand for as a Christian and sovereign Nation. I thank God for our people in uniform, without them we would all be speaking German and the rights we now have would be non-existent. God Bless America Words and music by Irving Berlin"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free, Let us all be grateful for a land so fair, As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. " God Bless America, Land that I love. Stand beside her, and guide her Thru the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, To the oceans, white with foam God bless America, My home sweet home. caught you singing along

Welcome home djohn! Thank you for your service to our country. I am the wife of a vietnam vet. He was a medic. He has the same feelings as you do. No matter what the politicians or government powers that be say or do, I will ALWAYS support our men and women that serve their country. You are what makes it possible to have the freedoms we enjoy.

Joinig the Air Force in 1972, I only caught the tail end of Vietnam but I have had a hand in every Conflict since. Honduras, Panama, Desert Shield, I remember something about Korea also but that one is a bit vague and i wasn't directly involved. So yes i love my country,...but it's my government i fear.
