blog.al.com/bn/crossroads/This link is to a Birmingham News online report about the situation in the city. Of course, it does NOTHING to address the lack of leadership in City Hall or the county commission.

I love going downtown and Southside in particular. Rojo's, Botega, Ranelli's deli, Lakeview district. Alot of big time development going on in Highland Park.
I think there are alot of folks that are tired of it taking 2 hours to get down 280 or I-65 south after work.

I think there are alot of folks that are tired of it taking 2 hours to get down 280 or I-65 south after work. There are also more folks tired of tax increases, corrupt city and county governments, a failing school system, crumbling infrastructure, crime rates, shrinking job base, etc. etc. etc. If you look at the current comparisons, Montgomery is on target to surpass Birmingham in population within a few years. That will cripple Birmingham's city government as all the federal tax $$ that they've been used to receiving will evaporate. It's like this asinine head of the B'ham Board of Education, Mims; he's inherited a shrinking student population and he's clamoring over the state enforcing fiscal responsibility, but is his concern with the students? No; it's about saving hundreds of redundant jobs within a failing school system.

I love going downtown and Southside in particular. Me too... But I went downtown Saturday morning to the gun show at BJCC, and I wasn't 5 feet from my car before I got approached by a panhandler... Being a golfer, I tend to walk at a fast pace anyway, but I had the afterburners on after that...I'm just glad I didn't have to try to outrun a bullet...

I am tired of the panhandling as well. When we lived in 5 Points South 2 years ago, I couldn't check our PO box without being aggressively panhandled by some bleeding drunk or junky.

Nobody with kids will want to live in the city limits due to the crappy schools.

Nobody with kids will want to live in the city limits due to the crappy schools. Why do you think Birmingham's never in competition for any of the major industrial bids in Alabama? Schools, high taxes, corruption, etc. etc. etc. All a search firm would have to do is some simple internet research into the problems in our metro area and they'd pass for another location.
