1st i want to say that i listen to 101 on the web at work daily (usually) in the background. I needed to sound off about a clueless moron at your station. Now i don't know who was hosting the show..cough.. but This individual started critisizing Merle Haggard about some comment he made about the economy going to the crapper. He was going to burn all his CD's because "our country is in the best shape it's ever been in".
What planet was this host from? Does he even know what inflation or cost of living is? Here's some facts that i personally have noticed in my few years around.
In 1974 I hired into a fabrication shop at $13.50 per hour. I purchased a Dodge charger off the show room floor for $3,400.00. Cigarettes cost 34 cents a pack and gas was around 30 cents a gallon.
In 2004 I hire new employees into our fab shop at $13.50 an hour. A new Dodge Charger costs $34,000.00. Cigarettes are what, $3.00? and gas is what?
So in 30 years prices have gone up 10X while wages stayed about the same. How is this a good thing?
In the late 60's I was going to school full time, working part time at Burger Chef (mcdonalds clone) and living on my own, paying rent on a HOUSE. If the economy is as good as it was then, people working at McDonalds would be making $35.00 per hour.
