As far as your beer issue, you might like this site: www.freethehops.org/index.phpI don't understand the restriction on the alcohol content for beer when wine and hard liquor didn't have any restrictions placed. Do you know why? EDIT:...... The link gave the only answer I could think of. "Beer was the beverage of choice for blue-collar workers, and the Prohibitionists—still very influential in the state of Alabama—were eager to keep as much alcohol out of it as possible. In many states, they were able to convince mill owners and other industrial magnates that high-alcohol beer would hamper their workers' productivity. This antiquated, misplaced, Prohibitionist fear of high alcohol content in a blue-collar beverage is a legacy that remains in effect in this state even into the 21st Century."

The ONLY argument the "conservative" representatives in this state offer is that it would promote more drunkeness by teenagers. Like a damn teenager is going to spend $10 on a 6 pack of specialty beer! Comeon man! They're gonna go to the liquor store and get some hobo to buy them some 80 proof rotgut vodka for $3.50 a pint (that the STATE sells by the way).
What a bunch of ridiculousness.

I thought the Democrats were in power in the legislature...why didn't they vote on the vote to vote about changing the existing law? The conservatives may be vocal in not wanting the law to change but they are in no power to prevent it, so they are perhaps that wrong people to be looking at.

But the democrats in this state are not progressive. They want to act as if they're conservative on issues also, especially when it comes to gambling and alcohol.

So, they are religious socialists. I think that's a very good way to put it.
