Ok, again, if you don't want to debate the bible, then don't. I thought it was a reasonable response. You gave your opinion that we shouldn't, I disagree, therefore nothing else to say. Like a Preacher told me once, ''God wants me to 'preach' HIS Word, It's HIS job to perform HIS Word! Some will NEVER 'Hear' HIS Word! He added, ''You can't 'melt it (God's Word) and pour it 'in' them!'' ok, you do that as long as you are careful that it is not in response to counter what another person says. Then it would be a debate, which is contrary to what you have stated you want to do. The only way to do want you want of course, is to not quote scripture in an existing thread. Instead, just start individual threads along with what you want to preach.

Telling the 'TRUTH' with firmness and debating are separate inanities! Ok, so if you don't want to debate, then don't. You gave your opinion of why you don't want others to debate. Fine. Nothing has changed as far as I know.

kevin,
Great answer!! That's pretty much what I thought -- but you summarized it beautifully! While I agree with your answer, I still have a little trouble understanding how God would try and appease the devil (sort of.) Why did God feel had had to prove anything to Satan? Especially when it meant causing great harm/hurt to someone so good.
Like you said, perhaps it helps us to understand when things happen to us that are not just.
And it serves as a lesson when we deal with the Eliphaz types in our lives.

Yup, Idolotry was practiced numerous times by the Israelites. Sure. YHWH was just one of many Canaanite Gods. "In 1975, as the dig progressed down to Early Bronze Age levels, a remarkable find was made in the form of nearly 20,000 clay tablets which constituted the royal archives of the city. " www.mystae.com/restricted/streams/thera/canaan.htmlThat's how we know that history was very different than the stories of the Bible. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebla#Religion"The Ebla texts include many Semitic names which recall those of the Old Testament but extravagant claims of a cult of Yahweh at Ebla and of texts mentioning the biblical patriarchs, the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and the Flood story are without foundation" ancientneareast.tripod.com/Ebla_Mardikh.htmlNow a closed minded person would just ignore all that and pretend the brainwashing he got in Sunday school is the beginning and end of all knowledge.

Thanks

Job is not an easy book to accept. Today we all want to view God as some big brother who wants us to sit around the campfire and sing Kumbaya. It would be a lot easier if that was the way it was. But we know that the world is not like that. What if there had not been any examples like Job for us in God's Word? The first time we faced adversity, we'd run away and feel that God was not there for us. Satan was saying that very thing. Job 1:9-12 - Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face." Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.
Some people get this misconception that becoming a Christian will shield them from the world's evils and that nothing but good will be the result. Not the case. But God's strength -- as shown in Job -- enables us to come through the hard times in our life. Like the words from a Scott Krippayne song: "Sometimes He calms the storm, and other times He calms His child".

Quote ''Some people get this misconception that becoming a Christian will shield them from the world's evils and that nothing but good will be the result.''
I heard a preacher say it this way! If you're for REAL, and start to serve God, when God puts HIS HAND on you, the devil lays his axe to you! --- Lot of Truth!
2 Corinthians 12:8-10
8) For this thing, I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9) And He said unto me, "My grace is sufficent for thee, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore will I glory rather in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10) Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Job is a good picture of the persecuted Jew in the tribulation.
The Book of Job has 42 Chapters- The Great tribulation is for 42 months.
Job is on the ground for 7 days- The tribulation is for 7 years.
Job is persecuted by the devil- The jews in the tribulation are also.
Job loses everyting only to have it restored more than double in the end- The Jews in the Tribulation lose it all and receive their inheritance in the Millenial Reign of Christ.
Those are just a few I can think of off of the top of my head.
2 of the best Commentaries on the Book of Job are by Dr Peter Ruckman and Jeff Adams.
