"Chaucerian fraud"--wow. Why can't I come up with a phrase as wickedly smart as that?
I guess I blame my edumacashun.

Hitchen's has no class, I compare this to Chris saying that "Anna Nicole Smith's daughter is better off with her dead" the day after she dies.

Hey, that guy looks like the type that gets drunk quite often. In fact, he looked somewhat disheveled in the video...
Seriously, just because someone sounds like a loon sometimes does not make him a charlatan. Who knows what really went on in Falwell's mind? I tend to discount most televangelist types, but to say he was purposely misleading people for his own gain is pure speculation.

Falwell spent alot of time condemning others for their sin and really initiated the culture wars that hold us back so much as a country. He said ALOT of hateful shit that hurt alot of people. Not least of which was that New York had 9/11 coming. Hitchens is just giving Rev Falwell a little back.
I agree with him. The guy spent way too much time hurting others.

But would you agree that there was the possibility that Falwell felt he was doing the right thing by what he did? If so, he was not a charlatan in that sense because he may have been convinced that he was doing it for the good of others. Hard to believe in some instances but that does not make it any less true. Kinda late, he's dead. Talking poorly about a dead man takes no guts. Where was this Hitchen's fella when Falwell was alive? And no, I don't have time to look him up right now .
