Well, I'm sure you folks are not ignorant of the following, but for the less enlightened Matthew 24:3-14 3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. 9 "Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 "At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12 "Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. 13 "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. 14 "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. I could make comments on all of the above verses but I think you know already. Tell me which of those verses does not have viable examples in the day we live in now? But if you do want more info on verse 9, go to Christian Persecution Info. Some of the recent headlines: "Burma Christian Villagers Flee After Execution Humanitarian Aid Worker" "Vietnam Security Forces 'Torturing' Detained Montagnard Christians" "Sudan: Evangelists Killed in Nuba Mountains" "Nigeria: Muslim Extremists Set Church on Fire" "China 'Beat' And Detains Wife Of Chinese House Church Leader, Group Says" "Turkish Believers 'Satanically Tortured' Before Being Killed" "Iraq: Baghdad Christians Flee Forced Conversion"
There are many more there which speak of similar things but you'd need to read the one-liner that goes with the article title to get the picture. I'm not big talking about end-time stuff because churches use to wear the subject out, but the story above reminded me of these verses. Gives you something to ponder, hmm?

That is really scary, but it IS something that we are told to expect so I am not surprised.

mamawolf,
The only thing I am surprised about is how easy it is for these guys to influence so many people and make them think that he is Jesus. What's really sad is when the REAL antichrist comes he won't be playing parlor tricks...he will actually have some substantive power that he will be weilding around to deceive. If there are that many people that can be fooled by this dudes level....oh brother.
Rev 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by [the means of] those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
