What did those who watched it think of it? I myself didn't watch it until two weeks ago.
I cried. I also didn't think that the "prolonged" punishment, depicted in the movie was "too much" as was reported in the MSM. I felt that it was just about right and was an attempt to portray an honest, howbeit, opinionated view of what took place.
The side notes of the devil and Mary seeing the devil were interesting takes and plausible.
I really liked how the movie went back and forth between the events of Jesus leading up to the crucification and him as a younger man and child. Granted they don't have a foundation in the biblical text but those scenes too would be just as plausible.
I felt it was a very good movie and brought a more down to earth and realistic perception of what occurred, versus the more watered down versions of Jesus in the past.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie that depicts Mary and Joseph. Now again, I know these films have a lot of imagination involved but it gives a much needed human perspective of what could have taken place.
Some might be wondering why it took me 3 years to watch the movie. I don't know, it was sitting, still wrapped in my DVD collection for at least a year. I guess I didn't want to feel angry over what happened to him. Which is a mixed emotion considering that what he allowed to happen should bring a great joy. I then think about it more and realize that the greater joy was his resurrection. One has to wonder if the greatest joy will be the moment of his deserved glory before all.
