I was piddling around on Youtube this morning and watched Alice in Chains' video for "Would?" and realized what a great song it was. I didn't appreciate the entire grunge/Seattle thing at the time because I was into industrial acts like Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Front 242, etc. Here's my top 10 list of the best songs from the era: 1) "Smells Like Teen Spirit" -Nirvana 2) "Would?"-Alice in Chains 3) "Outshined"-Soundgarden 4) "Nearly Lost You"- Screaming Trees 5) "Feel the Pain"- Dinosaur Jr. 6) "Empty Garden"-Stone Temple Pilots 7) "Say Hello To Heaven"-Temple of the Dog 8) "Debonair"-Aghan Whigs (tough choice between this and "Beware") 9) "Backwater" by Meat Puppets 10) "Bruise Violet" by Babes in Toyland

Smells like teen spirit...that was the song back in the day. Too bad things ended up the way they did.
Romans 10 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

I think Courtney had something to do with Cobain's death.

I saw STP in Atlanta in '93...The Butthole Surfers opened for them, but I was able to get past it and stay for the rest of the show.

I'd add "Tomorrow" by Silverchair. And also "Far Behind" by Candlebox.

I wonder what Kurt Cobain would think of his music being played on Classic Rock stations like 99.5fm.

Just had to vote for Soundgarden. I can't help it that all of the original members are still alive (I think).

"Heaven Beside You"
"Over Now"
"Nutshell"
EDIT: Oh... and anything by Aaron Carter.

Uh, was Aaron Carter ever considered "grunge"? "Grunge" != "crap".

brandon- Did you happen to catch Alice in Chains backing up (of all people) Gretchen Wilson on VH1 Honors the other night? They did a tribute to Heart, who were being awarded Honors. They did a DAMN good job on "Barracuda". I found another link: youtube.com/watch?v=bXKJtUX25Xg&mode=related&search=Thanks for the info. This is a cool vid!

You know...this might be considered more of a post-grunge band/song, but I heard "So Help Me Jesus" by Toadies the other day & I remembered how much I used to like that one. I don't know of anything else they did, but that was one hot song.

I believe you young whippersnappers are forgetting another big act from about that time period... Zamfir... Panflute grunge... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zamfir (120 gold and platinum records...) You just know he has to be cool... panflute.net/zamfir/zamfir.html"When he was accepted at the Bucharest High School of Music at 14, however, it was with the stipulation that he study the pan flute with virtuoso Fanica Luca. "I cried because I wanted to play accordion," Zamfir recalls." Heh, heh...

Silverchair had two or three hits in 1995-97, which is amazing considering the guitarist/singer was only around 16 years old at the time. He's been down with arthritis lately. I also liked the song "Stars" by Hum and haven't heard that one in ages either.
