Most of us oppose free health care for illegals. But what is the answer exactly? They are here and our government says it's okay (not just okay but great.) Say a pregnant illegal shows up in labor at the hospital -- no insurance and no money -- what should health care workers do? Or when they bring seriously sick kids in? Do the workers deny care? Of course when care is given the costs are passed along to Americans.
So what's the answer?

Treat them and send the bill to the Mexican (or Costa Rican, Panamanian, etc.) government. I doubt that they will pay it, but we can just deduct what they owe us from the aid that we give them each year. So if the citizens of Mexico rack up 1 million in unpaid medical bills, just deduct that from what we would give them in food, money, etc in the form of humanitarian aid.

Well, I know that not treating them is not an option. And I also recognize that we give billions of dollars to nearly every country in the world. I think that is the best way to handle it. We most likely won't cut off all foregin aid, so why not just call the free healthcare that they receive foreign aid. After all, it is thier gov't's responsibility to take care of them, not ours. But, of course, this kind of logical thinking is shunned in D.C.

Thats the best solution I've heard yet. If you hit them (the mexican government) where it hurts (in THEIR wallets) it may change their attitudes.

I recently developed a bleeding ulcer and was in ICU for 3 days. Even with insurance the bill including the ambulance was over 1000! Took me a while but finally got it paid off. Just irks me that if I had been a illegal I would not have to worry about it!!

What is that supposed to mean? I just stated if I had been an illegal then I wouldn't have to worry about paying the bill.
