I think that this team has a great chance on improving from last year (79-83) based on our pen, which has been totally overhauled. Our pen probably cost us at least 10-15 wins last year, which would have given us the wild card.
We have three legitimat closers in Wick, Gonzo, and Soriano. Unfortunately, we had to give up Adam LaRoche (35+ HR power) to get Gonzo, but Thorman should be adequate in replacing him.
Anyone else have a favorite team, or any predictions for this year?

Who would you pick as your #1?
I was thinking about Alfonso Soriano simply because he produces the most diverse numbers of anyone. He's a good bet at 35/35 and 100 runs every year. The other obvious ones are Pujols, Howard, and Rodriguez.
I don't plan on drafting pitchers until the 6th or 7th round.

howard could be a must have player.....lots of pitchers that can throw......i shoot for having balance on my teams...i also go with a couple of young "sleepers" each year.....barfield at second base is a likely pick.

I think I'm going with K. Johnson as my 2B. He's got 20 HR potential and is patient so he will have a high OBP.
I don't like to have player with one category, like power or speed, but players who are good or at least decent in a lot of categories.
I'm hoping Cole Hammels and Chuck James are available later on, cause Hammels has 15W/200K prospects and James is good for 13-15W/175K. Plus they're both pretty cheap.

As a cubs fan I hope you are right about Soriano. He should put up big numbers, he will be batting lead-off and playing half his games in the "friendly confines." But I am a Cubs fan so I am delusional.

if it is a free/very low cost league i would play.
plan to spend about $1000 playing the cdm grand challenge(4 different formats with a 5th built in combining to 4 totals for a 5 challenge) and the sporting news.
last year spent about $300 total and got back $1500 from the 2nd place finish.
not sure why these things are legal but sweepstakes arent?

I don't get/understand the fantasy stuff at all, but if we're talking about the real game then I am totally excited about baseball getting started back. In fact I just ordered my Spring Training tickets 5 min. ago. I'm sad about Marcus Giles (he was my favorite Braves player) and Adam LaRoche no longer being with the Braves (I really do wish them luck with their new teams), but maybe all these new pitchers can help us improve over last year...seriously, it can't get worse can it?! No matter...GO BRAVES (and Padres since I'm still a Giles fan!)

Well, Giles's production was steadily on the decline since his outbreak season of 2003. Injuries played a major role in the decline, but I really think that Giles overacheived in 2003.
I agree about LaRoche, though. He had the nicest looking swing I've seen since Don Mattingly. I do think that Thorman can adequately fill in.
