OK, going to play political activist here. I encourage you to vote "NO" on Amendment 1 on June 5th -- the special election that has nothing on the ballot but 2 amendments that the Bob Riley wants to sneak past the citizens of Alabama.
From www.myaea.org/PDFfile/SpecialElection.pdf:
2 things I do not like about this: (1) That Bob Riley would make promises on money that wasn't yet available and then try to sneak an amendment through to support the promise. (2) If the $800+ million was not enough, ThyssenKrupp has been promised that they would not pay state income taxes for 30 years unless their tax liability exceeds $185 million in any year. That is an obvious unfair advantage over existing companies in Alabama and while it has nothing to do with Amendment 1, by saying "no" we send Riley a message that he does not get to pick and choose how Alabama does business.
Hehe, IF some dufus chooses Riley as a VP, I will vote for Pedro.
From www.myaea.org/PDFfile/SpecialElection.pdf:
Amendment 1 will raise the state’s borrowing limit for economic development from the current $350 million to $750 million.
The drive behind raising the borrowing limit is the possibility of luring a major German steel manufacturer to southwest Alabama that would create 25,000 construction jobs and 2,700 manufacturing jobs. The state has an excellent record of industry recruitment, starting with Mercedes in the early 1990s, and state incentives for site preparation, workforce training, and infrastructure improvement has been a key to that success.
