You said...favorite tv shows and I gave some of my favorite ones...I didn't watch those "live" but via re-run when I was a kid. Other than some of the new shows I listed, they are much better than the crap that's been on the past 10 - 15 years.
oops, I forgot about:
Alfred Hitchcock Presents Perry Mason Quincy M.E Ironside

I Shouldn't Be Alive Mythbusters About anything science related on Discovery or the Science Channel Green Acres The Andy Griffith Show Spongebob Squarepants Firefly ( I've just bought the DVD along with Serenity and I completely see why people were distraught when it was cancelled. It's my favorite sci-fi series ever.) The Twilight Zone Survivor Man (I think, a Discovery channel about tips and techniques.) Edit: I forgot to include Sanford and Son.

solinvictus, you hit on one we watch EVERY DAY and it is quite funny.......Spongebob Squarepants and for any of you parents who have to watch cartoons all day. Jimmy Neutron Fairly Oddparents
Generally though I only watch all of the Discovery, History, Military and Science Channels.
The other show I listed are basically things I am wrangled into watching whith my wife, but they are all good.
Phin, you must be in your late 40s to early/mid 50s.......am I close?

I'll be honest....there's almost nothing on television that I just hate to miss. With my work schedule and the fact that I travel a bit (even if comparatively locally) and I don't yet know which cable systems offer which channels on which stations, I find that I'm just not in a position to commit to watching any given show.
I do watch 24 whenever possible.
I liked Jericho, but missed almost all of this season so I'm lost.
Military Channel, yeah. History Channel, of course.
Mythbusters (even got my daughter interested in science because of this show)
C-SPAN I and II.
O'Reilly Factor, though I could do without the constant tabloid TV stuff that he seems to be showing (Spring Break, Anna Nicole, etc.) too often.
Wrestling.
VHOne Classic (yeah I'm reliving my youth)
Pro hockey.
TV Land (though I'll cop to watching many of those shows when they originally aired)
G4-TV to see what Layleigh Kalie isn't wearing...
Past that, nothing consistently.

Hmmm... I like just about anything that airs on the National Geographic Channel and The History Channel. I used to like Discovery and TLC alot more, but they're showing too much reality type tv lately, and I don't like stuff like that (the "I Shouldn't Be Alive" show is OK). But other than that, here's my list: C-Span (I get alot of grumblings from my pals about that one, LOL) Battlestar Galactica (the new one) The Outer Limits The Twilight Zone (both old and new) The Sapranos The Daily Show/The Colbert Report (on and off--just if I happen to catch them) Did you ever watch Monsters and/or Tales From the Darkside? And was The Night Gallery the horror anthology show that aired on USA? Coincidentally, I picked up a collection of Alfred Hitchcock Presents short stories a couple of weeks ago (hardback, on clearance @ Books A Million for $5 woo-hoo!).

Did you ever watch Monsters and/or Tales From the Darkside?
I didn't recognize the title but when I saw the picture of the opening shot on the link, it came to me. Yeah, that show was good too, I remember that the "announcer" at the start of the show had a cool but creepy voice.
And was The Night Gallery the horror anthology show that aired on USA?
I don't recall what network used to show it when I watched it as a kid. I want to say that the USA network wasn't around when the re-runs were showing for me...they may have started playing them though.
I used to watch kung-fu movies after school...the classics like "The five deadly venoms" and "The kid with the Golden Arm". Those were the days...

I'm addicted to LOST. It's the only show throughout the week that I MUST watch.
Other than that I'll TIVO:
The Office (funniest show since Seinfield) Scrubs CSI: Vegas Heroes Jericho (Great idea for a TV show, but as usual CBS cheesed it up in typical CBS drama fashon) Planet Earth (Worth the price of an HD TV all by itself) Deadliest Catch Sopranos Six Feet Under
Cartoons (in order of favorite to least): -Futurama (New epsiodes 2008!) -South Park -Simpsons -Family Guy -American Dad
Damn...after rereading this, I watch too much TV.

The Night Gallery show and USA's Fright Night Theatre & Saturday Nightmares. Found a cool site while I was searching...

Frag-
I liked watching the Hammer Films on tv...Christopher Lee being the best Dracula.
I liked the Three Stooges as well, there was a period of the week that, like the Kung Fu movies, came on the same day on the same tv station...I can't stand the fact that Turner colorized a lot of them and it's harder to get or watch the Black and White versions.

Tough call. I really don't watch much television at all. Usually reading or doing web/band stuff. My new favorite is The Dresden Files (on sci-fi). Usually try to catch House every week, but it doesn't break my heart to miss it. And, of course, my wife and I watch American Idol, although it pains me to admit it. ;D Favorites I catch (or used to catch) occasionally: Scrubs Deep Sea Detectives Mythbusters Fairly Oddparents South Park Daily Show/Colbert Report Dead Like Me Carnivale And Old School cartoon favorites, since someone went the nostalgia route: Ren & Stimpy Animaniacs Looney Tunes (still an all-time favorite ... bought two of the dvd sets so far.) More of a movie fan, really. Although, if I had BBC America, I'd probably never leave the house. Love me some British comedy. "My Family" is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Caught a marathon of it at my mom's house once and fell in lurve with it. www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/myfamily/

Speaking of nostalgia cartoons....It would be Spider Man, the Batman TV show (non-cartoon) and Speed Racer. It was funny...I rented a Speed Racer video in my 20s and thought my newphews would love it...I talked it up and guess who fell asleep? Yeah, I was bored out of my mind and fell asleep, I don't know what it was I liked about the show...could have been all the spitting while talking or the obligatory scene of Speed almost going over a cliff. Speaking of speaking about nostalgia... Anybody remember watching this show: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliffhangers_%28TV_series%29Damn...how could I forget Columbo!

Yeah. It's funny how certain shows/cartoons don't age well. Loved Scooby Doo as a child ... tried to watch it with one of my kids a few years ago. Painful. Looney Tunes, on the other hand, have just gotten funnier with age. I can sit and watch Bully For Bugs, Rabbit Seasoning, The Rabbit Of Seville, or Long-Haired Hare and laugh harder than I ever did as a child. Of course, the WB guys said they wrote them for adults ...

That is pretty tempting! I don't know if you ever buy from ebay, but I found this for you as a starting point. I assumed you'd be looking on DVD, and in the USA only, so that's how I narrowed down the search. Hope it helps! Speaking of watching things that you thought were awesome as a child.... I used to NEVER miss an episode of the Dukes of Hazzard. I had two hamsters when I was about 6 that I named Bo and Luke Duke, just to illustrate how big of a fan I was. Well...I tried watching an episode a couple of years ago, and I just couldn't get over how utterly cheesy and stupid that show was! As for cartoons... I was into The Smurfs (of course! LOL), Pac-Man, Voltron (I have that theme song in my music library )Speed Racer, Beanie & Cecil & Looney Tunes. I used to watch some show in California that was hosted by Tom somebody or another. It would come on early in the mornings and they'd show old stuff like Felix the Cat & Popeye & then they'd wrap it up with The Three Stooges. I watched another cartoon that must've been on in the 70's (I would've been watching in the very early 80's) called "Wait Til Your Father Gets Home". Don't know if anyone ever saw that one....
