yojoe,
I was kidding. I like all ancient mythology. A friend of mine pushed Isaiah on me because it was supposed to have all these predictions about Jesus. After rereading it in that light it was glaringly apparent that this book was in no way a magic foretelling of Christianity.
When these prophesies are read in context one has to wonder at the self delusion of those who make these claims.
I guess we have to thank Jesus for creating a climate where this old text wasn't destroyed. Shame we can't say the same about all the other books that The Christians torched.

What is it about atheists and their lack of respect for other people's beliefs? There is all this whining that Christians "judge" other people and make statements that people are going to hell. The opposite is true in forums that I have been on....it's always the atheists that go out of their way to antagonize those with religious beliefs. If you are so self assured there is no God, then why belittle the belief of others? Me thinks your not sure at all.

strange coming from a person that believes their version of Christianity is the ONLY correct way to live and only path the heaven?
by definition corny YOU show NO respect to anyone else's beliefs.

I make no apologies for saying Christianity is the only path to heaven. I woudn't be a Christian if I didn't beleive that. I have never said, my version of Christianity or anything to the effect. You are either a Christian or you're not. That being said, I have enough respect for people that I don't do the equivalent of using words like myth, magic, fairy tales, etc., that atheists use all the time when commenting on the beliefs of religious people, towards atheists and their non-belief.

yojoe, After rereading it in that light it was glaringly apparent that this book was in no way a magic foretelling of Christianity. So you are saying you actually sat down and read the entire book of Isaiah? I am impressed. Do you not agree it is at the very least, a great work of art?

The Bible IS mythology. That's not an insult it's a fact. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MythologyWhen people claim that it's history or science that's a direct insult to my belief system. So stop your whining.

The Bible contains history, but its purpose isn't primarily history.
The cultures the writings came from were prescientific, so it wouldn't be a science book in any case.
Mythology? Perhaps, in the most strict sense of the word, some parts are. But the purpose of the Bible is to be a work of theology. Theological works generally insult folks whose theologies disagree; for example look at how most Christians view the Qu'ran.
