For all you militia fanatics...maybe you should take a look at this book co-written by Newt Gingrich. Seems to possess all the qualities of a pro-gun story.
In 1995, Gingrich collaborated with William R. Forstchen on the alternate history novel 1945, describing a World War II in which the US fought against (and defeated) Japan only, while Nazi Germany defeated the Soviet Union, and the two confront each other in a cold war which swiftly turns hot.
Among other things it was described as being "a disguised tract against gun control",[citation needed] as the key scene depicts an armed Tennessee civilian militia, led by Alvin York, defeating Otto Skorzeny's commandos, who raid Oak Ridge. It ended with a cliffhanger — Rommel invading Scotland and the British facing a desperate fight — but a promised sequel, provisionally called "Fortress Europa", has yet to be written.

phin-
I think I can answer that one.
Gingrich got sidetracked writing a three book series on an alternate Civil War scenario- "Gettysburg", "Grant Comes East" and "Never Sound Retreat". EXCELLENT books, all.
Now he's written "Pearl Harbor: A Novel About December 8th"- I've got my copy coming from American Compass- that promises to outline an alternative WW2. I have very high expectations....but then I always do when it comes to their books and they always manage to exceed them.
He's also written a number of nonfiction books in the interim.
As far as "1945", I read it a while back.
I don't think it is a "disguised Tract" against gun control; it's pretty overt in saying gun control to the point of aboloishing the right to bear arms entirely is a bad, bad idea.
Among the very first things the Nazis do after the invasion is to require under threat of execution that all firearms be turned in to the Nazi ruling authority. Makes perfect sense- a disarmed public is a docile public.

Actually, the National Socialists didn't forbid ownership of firearms; even Jews. They only forbade Jews from owning and operating munitions factories.
