I just received news of the loss of my friend Ray. Ray was the brother in law of my dear friend Carol, who was a widow. He was in his late 70's and he was one hell of a guy. Ray and his wife Alice would come and visit Carol for a week from Tallahasee about twice a year. Ray would spend that week working as hard as he could fixing whatever had broken since his last visit, and he could fix ANYTHING!!! All he asked in return was a cold beer and some peanuts at the end of the day. He was a joy to spend time with and the most easy going person in the world. He was a WWII veteran of the Pacific Theatre and I have to say one of the people I most loved and admired. He died of Cancer, very suddenly. What a happy day it will be when we conquer that disease! I know this is a personal post but I just wanted to say something about him, Here's to you Ray!! You'll be missed!!

I'm sorry to hear that I hope you are doing ok after the news.
side note, I'm sure a cure for cancer has probably been discovered but it will never be disclosed because of the amount of monetary loss to the researchers and clinics who depend on funding for said research.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We lose more and more WWII vets everyday, and thats a shame. We should all be so lucky to get to know some of those great guys.

I agree..sorry to hear of your loss. As much time as I spent with my grandparents, I'm going to really mourn the loss of the WW2 generation. I used to listen to my granddad tell me about the Pacific Theater as well.

My son is learning about WWII and they had to interview someone who was in the war or just someone who remembers that time in their life. My husband had 4 uncles who fought in WWII and was at Guadalcanal. They have all passed away but my husbands mother was able to let my son interview her. It was very cool!! She told alot of info of the things she remembered of what happened here and she told about her brothers. She was 10 when the Japanese attacked Pear Harbor. We taped her giving her story and I have put it up. I am very glad that my son had this report! We learned some history and family history together!

It's sad that another man from the finest generation that ever lived has left us. I'm always humbled when I see stories about the heroes from WWII, including the women of that age.

Rich I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend! My Dad was in WWII.
If it is any comfort, given what we face today, he is in a much better place! His fight is over and he is at peace with the Lord!

My dad and his three brothers all served in WW2. Dad was in the Phillippines Occupation Forces in late '44 to mid '45. Two of his brothers came ashore on D-Day and one fought his way up the Italian boot.
Folks like that just cannot be replaced and nothing we can say or do is enough for them.
Rich, I'm sad for what is not only your loss, but all of ours as well.

I'm also sorry to hear of your loss. My grandfather just turned 80 and was a part of the Japanese occupation force. I'm very thankful that he is still with us and going strong.
