Exodus 34 (King James Version)
Here it is the source of American law:
14For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
15Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;
16And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.
17Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
18The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib: for in the month Abib thou camest out from Egypt.
19All that openeth the matrix is mine; and every firstling among thy cattle, whether ox or sheep, that is male.
20But the firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb: and if thou redeem him not, then shalt thou break his neck. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.
21Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
22And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
23Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the LORD God, the God of Israel.
24For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the LORD thy God thrice in the year.
25Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
26The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
27And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

For someone who hates the bible he sure does like to talk about it a lot. You would only talk about something all the time if you knew deep down it was true. Or he is just trying to start an argument.

blondie, are we to assume you think the parts in bold should be followed by Christians?

Alright. This has been bothering me. Blondie, I've been going after you pretty hard tonight and that wasn't right of me. I should only stick to attacking your ideas. I got upset because of all the attacks you've been making against what I believe and I let it get the best of me. Not an excuse. I apoligize for the personal attacks I made in the other thread. I'm putting it here because I think there's a better chance of you seeing it. Now, I would love for you to post what this thread is about so that I can attack it

I'll go out on a limb and say that I think blondie is trying to make the point that God set forth these particular rules for us to follow in order to reach His Kingdon and that we, on the whole, do a pretty poor job of it. I'm going to further guess that he'd call us all hypocrites for claiming to follow the teachings and rules of a God and insisting that others do so as well, whether they agree with the rules or not, all the while failing to reach that goal ourselves.
blondie is right of course, but it's not news to Christians that we all fall short of the Godly Ideal.
Normally, I'm not fond of quoting bumper stickers but, in this instance, I'll make an exception:
Christians Aren't Perfect....Just Forgiven
Secondly, I'd suspect that blondie is pointing out just how archaic these specific strictures are to the 'modern man' , his point being that, if we allow the meaning of the Commandments to change over time, doesn't that mean that we should be more receptive to accepting that other law- specifically the laws written by man- to evolve as well? it would seem to set the table for multiple interpretations of man's law if we do so for God's law, right?
If I'm off-base, I'm sure that blondie will set me straight.

If I'm off-base, I'm sure that blondie will set me straight. That may be the point but if it is then it is easily disputed. The New Testament makes it clear that we no longer have to adhere to those laws for we are under Grace. The law was given to show us that we can never measure up to what God requires of us and are in desperate need of a Savior to redeem or fallen souls.

I bet 90%+ of all Christians that are so hung up on the 10 commandments don't know that these are the ones on the tablets that went into the Ark of the Covenant.

Blondie, is this the point you are trying to make in this thread? I'm still not following what you actually want to discuss. Most Christians don't read the Bible. Did you know that there are two creation myths in Genesis? With different orders of the days of creation. Even different names for god.

Blondie,
To be more precise, these are the second set of tablets made, that were put into the ark. Also inside the Ark was a golden pot of manna and Aaron's rod. Alongside the ark was placed the original Law written by Moses which was forgotten about by the people and was found by Hilkiah (2 Kings22:8 and 2 Chron 34:14, though it appears that the priests had it and were using it in 2 Chron 17:9, which would be an interesting study.)
Do you know where the Ark is now?

I like how you say creation "myths". Why do you spend so much time on something you believe to be false?

I like how you say creation "myths". Why do you spend so much time on something you believe to be false? I love this, too. Why does our faith bother someone who is sooooo convinced that there is just death and nothing more? Why should our faith and hope bother this person so very much? Why does he/she feel such a deep need to try and convert us all?

Did you know that there are two creation myths in Genesis? With different orders of the days of creation. Even different names for god. So that's the point of this thread? That most Christians don't read the Bible? I would completely agree with you with an exception. Most people who attend church do not read the Bible but it is my belief that most people who attend church are not Christians. Just because someone says they are a Christian does not make them such. But if we take your statement and tweak it a bit I think it will work much better. How about this: "Most people who call themselves Christians don't read the Bible." Does that work for you?

If blondie spent half the time and effort dispelling the myth of anthorpogenic global warming that he does dispelling the 'myth' of Christianity, Al Gore would be in the unemployment line where someone with his dubious skill set belongs....

Do you know where the Ark is now? I've heard it's in an old church in Ethiopia, but who knows if this is for real? What have you heard? Also, about the (common) 10 commandments. When guys like Roy Moore are so passionate about it I find it amazing that he doesn't respect the Sabbath. Say what you want about the "Lord's day" the Sabbath is the Sabbath. I find this mind-boggling.

Blondie, you already know I'm ignorant, so I'll just prove your point further...
As a Christian, I don't follow the "ten commandments" per se...
What I follow is better than that...at least the book of Hebrews says it is...that is the New Testament...
granted...the "spirit" of the ten commandments was carried over into the New Covenant, but the entire Old Covenant was "nailed to the cross"...so I don't really care where the ark of the covenant is today, or what it contains...I'll just leave it at that...
