it is easier only in the sense that LESS is expected and required of the students.....the process of an individual acquiring an education has NOT been made any easier by technology, more convenient yes but eaiser NOT.
as to a 10 year old and work ethic, indeed in their YOUTH is when these things are instilled in people.....the basic desire to learn is put in place in the first 4 years of life and similar with basic work ethic.

it is easier only in the sense that LESS is expected and required of the students.....the process of an individual acquiring an education has NOT been made any easier by technology, more convenient yes but eaiser NOT. Let's compare: Going to the library on a Saturday and spending five or so hours browsing bookshelves armed only with the information gleaned from the card catalog that used the Dewey Decimal System to tell you in what section the information you need might or might not be. Once you begin to compile the information you need, you must write it all down by hand in a notebook that you carried with you. Versus Powering up your desktop/laptop, connecting to the internet and Googleing whatever it is you need to research. Once you find what you need, simply cut-and-paste the information (footnote it please! cite sources!) and print it out on your printer at 15ppm. You're right in that technology makes things more convenient...but it also makes things easier. In this context, they are mutually inclusive. Ah OK...we're discussing different work ethics here. You're referring to learning ethic; I was speaking on labor ethic. She definitely has the learning ethic. She tested out reading at a 5th grade level...in early third grade. She loves to read- even without parental prodding. If it's a subject that she doesn't particularly like, she makes "only" B+'s in them. It might be only 4 grades so far, but she makes us real, REAL proud of her.

i see work ethic as being the same across the board, there is work involved in acquiring an education, there is work involved in sports participation, and there is of course work involved in being paid to do a job.
ALL 3 areas require that same basic work ethic, the recognition that there is work to be done, the stick to itness to get that work done, and the rewards for doing the work properly in all 3 areas, one you get an education, one you get better at your sport AND are more fit on a physical level, and one you get a paycheck to spend.
i see learning to clean one's own personal space as an opportunity to instill work ethic that can begin very early in life.
the pride in doing a job correctly is a reward in itself, and the self esteem is built by actual learning, by seeing results from sports practice, and self esteem is built in earning a paycheck!
