It may just be me ( and probably is) but I think it would be a good idea if we knew each others age, for the sole purpose of knowing the era you were brought up in, hence your frame of reference when discussing certain topics.
and if everyone thinks this is a bad idea, at least make a post stating so and why you wouldn't want to divulge such information.
I am 34 in Oct. I grew up in Tarrant city in the 70s through the 90s and I watched as the airport took over houses in East Lake and east Birmingham, sent hundreds of blacks into Tarrant (I am not racist) but things being what they are the city declined from that point on. The school which I grew up in, went from a majority white to a MAJORITY black a 8ft tall fence was erected around the school like a prison and along with the influx came drive bys, vandalism, theft, burglaries. So I moved to Gardendale when I got married. I have 2 children, 6 and 2, boy and a girl, two cats and a dog. I have had my own tile company for 3 years and I work alone but I am trying to get my wife to start coming to work with me. If anyone else is interested please post at least your age.

I turned 36 in February. I was raised in St Clair Co. My husband and I actually live in the same place my parents lived when I was born, so I haven't strayed very far. I lived for 18 months in Florida with my brother while he was stationed at Eglin during the early 90's, but other than that I have been very much the homebody. I have three children, a teenager, a pre teen and a toddler, so I am getting a broad range of experience in that area. I live very close to my disabled father, who depends on me for little things. I grew up with a very close knit extended family, but we have all drifted since my grandparents passed, which is very sad to me...

Hey I'll make a post on this! I'm 33 this march, I grew up around Florence in the Killen Green Hill area I met my wife 13 years ago we have been married now 11 years I have 3 kids ALL GIRLS 7 year old 5 year old and a 18 month old I'm a carpenter by trade, I have a small wood shop I build cabinets, Hand rails and Columns, Also Build Log homes and Stick homes, although for the past 2 years the shop has been profitable so been able to stay at home and not travel all over Gods Creation Now I'm a Christan in the since that i believe in God and Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, But I do not live the way I should in some ways but try my best in others, I believe that Government is out of control and the people has lost the strong arm of government I am not anti government, I am just anti this government! As far as blacks go I have nothing against back people I think they are a great people that have been through alot over time even in to the 50s and 60s the where discriminated against because of their color, i find this to be wrong very wrong! But at the same time Look above at my age, not in my life time that I can remember or where I have lived has such things took place, I have never owned a slave, I do not know anyone that has i do not know of anyone that has been a slave to another so there for I do not owe anyone a apology for anything. I believe that the ones of us that are better of money wise or beyond should help those who are less fortunate and not just the ones over seas but i think it should start right here with a neighbor or friend I believe that Employers pay them self way to much and pay their employees way to little I have been both so this I know I believe if people would stop thinking so highly of them selfs and think more of others then we would heal our land take back our government crime would decrees and families would have a more fighting chance! Ok thats me sort of I have more may post later

Well, its funny that the thirty something crowd is the only ones to post here, I guess that the older crowd didn't think it would be a good idea to let anyone know anything about themselves. I think that it is good to know who your talking to and to maybe understand were most of us get our perspectives from. I hope that by posting here you feel the same. Anyway, I appreciate all of you for humoring my thread and anyone else who may conjure up the courage to post here. If anyone has any problems to discuss or if there are any needs you may have, feel free to consider me your friend. ;D

I'm twenty-six. Come Sept. I'll have been married seven years. I have two kids, a girl and a boy, almost three and just over a year old. I live in Blount County near Springville. I work in the corporate office of Infinity Insurance just off 280 in the Collonade. I'm a Software Testing Specialist in the IT department. My wife stays at home with the kids and we plan to homeschool them in the future. My hobbies include writing/recording/mixing music, movies, and playing XBOX with my friends. Last year I just finished building my house. 1700 sq ft of blood and sweat. Did everything except lay brick for the foundation and the drywall. I don't do drywall It's paid off, though. I saved about $55,000 by building it myself.

I'm 43. I'm a single parent (by chance & choice) of one child, a 10 year old daughter. I grew up across the southeast; Northwest Louisiana, near Houston, Texas, Pinson & Pell City. I graduated HS in Pell City (Honor Thespian, Clarinet Section Leader, Editorial Editor HS newspaper, Who's Who x2 yrs, Homecoming Ct. ), went to college (Radio/Television Broadcasting), got married (86), got divorced, returned to college (Psychology), got married (88), returned to college (Psychology), got divorced, got married (92), returned to college (Psychology), got divorced. Worked in the mental health field for over 7 years. Am now a certified IT professional, but not working in the field; last IT job I had said I wasn't a 'good corporate fit'. I suppose it's because I'm a single parent and told them I would not leave my child at home at night alone while I took call. As far as religion, I'm a neo-pagan freewill Christian Buddhist. My church letter resides at the First United Methodist church in PC, I was raised in the Southern Baptist churches. My home is Rivendell; I purchased it in '05 in the middle of the wilds of Blount county. It's been a long strange trip....

I posted this in another thread (sawwwreee...didn't see this one first).
I'm almost 32, married, and I have two boys ages 11 & 6 (in about 2 weeks).
I grew up on the West coast (Burbank, CA) until I was about 14, when we moved to the south (Duluth, GA). I've been in the B'ham area since 1994 or so.
Exciting, I know!

I'm 27, manage a nonprofit org in Bham, and also do freelance print and web design. In my young days, I lived in Lithonia, GA (close to Stone Mountain), but we moved to Smoke Rise (Blount County), and now I live back there with my husband and son, who will be 4 in June.
I have an advertising degree and a minor in Graphic Design from UA, and I would advise to anyone not to get a degree in advertising with a minor in graphic design.
I'm good at a lot of things, but not great at anything. I have an extensive and useless repetoire of talents including speaking SOME Spanish, making up mediocre songs to play on my keyboard, writing a hub on small business marketing, and being the reigning queen of sautee at my house. I start things and quit them way too often, and I am a consummate underachiever.
Past accomplishments include being chess club president in high school, being a member of the 1st Place American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising team, and surviving a grueling childbirth.

Good 'ole Smoke Rise. I actually lived there until I was 16. It has its share of weirdos but, overall, I thought it was a nice, roomy place to live.

I don't remember seeing any real names, addresses, or phone numbers. If anyone gets seriously threatened they get the boot and not to mention online threats are taken seriously by the federal government.
You just don't like the fact that most of us want to be social with each other. And most of us don't throw around insults to each other, that hat belongs to you, hence the fact you dont want anyone to even know what your gender is, I would go so far as to say, I bet with some of your comments that you are an antisocial 16 year old boy, or a 40 year old divorcee of a preacher who now hates everyone.
by the way I'm not trying to insult you, its just a scientific observation, you can appreciate that cant you

Sure glad you don't know anything about me because I'm sure you would go after it. That's why I prefer not to give you any ammo. I guess being in the minority here in Alabamy I don't understand what it's like to hate someone for having different religious or political views than myself. Thanks for making my point. Take note people.

I dont hate anyone for having different religious or political views, as for someone like yourself I only feel badly for your soul but that is the extent of it. If you felt insulted by my comment then I am very sorry for doing that to you and I hope you can forgive me I only made the comment in jest as YOU do to everyone else here. You are showing that you feel that you have the right to make smartalec comments toward everyone else but when they are directed at you, you get all defencive and try to make out like you are the only one on the planet who gets ragged on by we evil Christians. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings.

I have seen it. I have been from one end of the spectrum to the other. I am tired of the threats, the implied threats, the religious bashing, and the petty childish games.

I think the most interesting thing to note is that this was a perfectly civil and enjoyable thread until you decided to post in it. I think that says alot about why you're even on this forum. Espy started a good-natured thread for those of us who wish to share a little about ourselves and find out a few further details about some of the others and you come along and try turn it into an argument.
